From sensor signal to database event

Why automation benefits from being designed as a chain of connected decisions.

Identify the data source

Each event needs a clear source: a sensor, reader, controller or operator. Define when it occurs and what data it carries.

Define exchange rules

Agree on data format, identifiers and event time. Consider delays and retransmissions.

Keep the context

A signal without its equipment or operation context has limited value. The database should preserve relationships needed for reporting and analysis.

Test the entire chain

Reading a sensor successfully does not prove the whole automation works. Verify that the event reached the database, was processed once and triggered the intended action.
